| Whenever
you use computers to help you with your work (at school, home or
a business), it is very important that you organise your work efficiently
so that you and others can find it easily. Backup copies of important
work is essential in order to avoid disappointment of lost work
and files. |

create and organise a structured directory / folder system for
your work.
- To
investiage naming conventions for various file types.
- To
create a backup system for your work.

| Learning
Outcomes: |
|
- You
should understand the importance of a structured and orderly
layout of your folders. You should also be able to create and
delete folders efficently.
- You
will be able to describe the different file types that certain
applications create and why it is important to use 'sensible'
file names when saving files.
- You
will also be able to explain why it is important to create backups
of all your work.
- You
will be able to verbally explain what is meant by 'houskeeping'
when related to computers.

you need to do: |

- Go
to your user area and delete any
work that is no longer required.
- Organise
any folders
that you have into a sensible and logical order.
- Create
a folder structure
that takes into account the requirements of this course, including
a folder for this unit.
- Using
the NWLG resource, find the section that provides information
about 'Housekeeping' (unit 1). As you work your way through
this resource, create a powerpoint presentation
that summarises the main points about, folders,
files types and naming
files.
- Include
in your presentation an explanation
of why and how you will make backups
of your work through
